About MERU

MERU is a digital dollar and crypto accounts fintech serving users in more than 150 countries, with a focus on Latin America. It combines dollar savings, investment in over 2,000 tokens, international transfers with MoneyGram to more than 200 countries, and a US-issued Visa card. It processes over a million rows monthly.

Meru's Challenge

MERU combines fiat and crypto payment rails, with multiple processors and international transfer providers. That complexity translated into a heavy operational load and a control cadence that could not surface discrepancies in time.

High operational load, all manual

Each reconciliation took up to 4 hours cross-checking reports in Excel and Colab with Python.

Monthly cadence vs. multi-rail

Reconciliations ran monthly or sporadically, with no cadence for timely detection.

Widening gaps as the business scaled

Reconciling monthly, the gaps between MERU’s records and its partners’ kept growing.

Complexity from multiple rails

Each partner reported in its own format and settlement logic, with no central integration.

Results achieved

From monthly manual reconciliations to a continuous, automated control model.

Before Simetrik
  • Manual reconciliations in Excel and Colab with Python, partner by partner
  • Up to 4 hours per reconciliation, limiting the team’s analytical capacity
  • Monthly or sporadic frequency against a complex multi-rail ecosystem
  • Multiple partners with different formats and manual report downloads
After Simetrik
  • 6 critical reconciliations automated with a 9x execution ratio
  • Median execution time of ~35 seconds per run, with no manual intervention
  • Continuous detection of inconsistencies before they generate accumulated losses
  • 15 sources mapped, 70% integrated via S3 (S-Trade), with a scalable model

How was it solved?

Simetrik was implemented as the central reconciliation and control platform for MERU’s financial operations, focused on cash flow integrity. The scope covered fiat processors, crypto operations, and internal records, with a model designed to scale.

How the solution was structured

We applied 3 domains from Simetrik’s framework to cover MERU’s cash flow integrity and give it continuous visibility over every inflow and outflow of funds.

Cash In
Deposit and crypto on-ramp reconciliation

Automatic validation of fiat deposits and on-ramp operations against MERU’s internal records, with full traceability.

Cash out
Withdrawal and off-ramp reconciliation

Automatic matching of withdrawals, transfers and off-ramp against internal records, eliminating duplicate payments.

Unified Oversight & Alerts
Centralized visibility and monitoring

Centralized dashboard with real-time visibility into execution times, reconciliation rates, and the status of every process.
